a great feminist -- MOVE OVER, WES CRAVEN!
I love Buffy, Angel, and Doctor Who. Pretty big fan of the Scream movies, and NBC's Dracula is fucking AWESOME. So it's perhaps slightly surprising that I hate horror. I mean I just HATE it.
Unsurprisingly, I don't draw a lot of horror-themed pieces. As those can go, this page is pretty tame, but it's still hard for me to not only see Kathryn like this, but to have to actually be the one illustrate it, to capture and sell the
But, dem's da breaks when you write someone whose main superpower is survival and who, on occasion, fights monsters.
The dialogue, in the final pass, got more personal than in the first (13) draft(s) -- Kathryn has a history with Smiley. And, if you pay attention, he's getting his job done here, but he's actually encouraging her toward recovering from her depression. He misses when it was much harder to beat her in a fight.
For anyone interested in such things, I've been drawing SwordCat Knights at print size for the last few pages; with the exception of the issue #5 cover, the last full-size original I drew was issue #4, page 17. I had hoped drawing smaller would increase speed, but that didn't pan out -- I still draw all the same lines I would if the original were tabloid sized, I just draw them little.
I am saving HELLA ink, though.
I have a lingering upper respiratory infection that is BADLY slowing my work pace; it's likely to stay at just one page a week for a little while longer. Thanks for your patience, and for reading. You are the best.
