SwordCat Writes | A Digital Letter Column

New page! Brought to you today by the letters D, and M, and also by the letter B.

Yes, I've been listening to an ENORMOUS amount of Dave Matthews Band as I drew this page. Anyone who can spot the secret DMB-related cameo wins a warm glowing tingle in their swimsuit area. Dave Matthews writes a lot about swimsuit areas. If you hated the studio version of Stand Up (lord knows I did, and I love DMB), check out the Live Series version of the same album on Spotify. It's glorious. Hello again, indeed.

As usual, COMMISSIONS ARE OPEN! Send me a PM, or hit me up on Facebook or Twitter. My rates are reasonable -- don't reason a cow.

900 pixles wide is best for me .. thats what datachasers is set to.. and SOME of it is readable but the rest is just blurry lines to me I have a large widescreen LCD monitor :P it could be that thre is just TOO much stuff in the page.. cramming it all down >_<

"Tightly packed? Like my ravioli?"

...tagline from an old Garfield pasta ad. Yeah, there's a lot going on here. As an artist, you're not supposed to depend on needing color too much, but my style is BUILT to be colored. Every single page would be at least twice as clear once colored.

I updated it to 12in/100ppi.

actually thats perfect - totally readable *HUGS* still cant read the little muttered statement by the guy :P except for the words "hope not"

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend going over 800px wide with your pages. I mean you can. And standards are much wider than 800 now.
If you are like me you'd be worried about that 1 person that might have read your comic had it not been over 800 px wide. Most people today have resolutions far greater. I try to keep up with that info. Now the largest is 1366×768 which just surpassed 1024x768.

But I don't want to turn off the 1 person with an 800 px max resolution that finds my comic :P

The bottom panel is slightly hard to read. It's a whisper so not a big deal. I would try not to make many word balloons with text that size unless you do decide to go larger for your pages.

As for the page itself, I really need to read more in the archive because I'm still lost story wise =p
I especially have no idea why the lady in the far right is dizzy. The reflection of the girl looking at her elf self is simply amazing.

This is 800 pixels wide. And the only thing I want to turn people off with is my content. :P

I'll have to print a page with a whisper at comic size and see if it's legible (I may have gone a point size too small with my whispers). It's hard, because I've selected the correct regular dialogue point size for print, but it looks small online.

As for why the lady (Arayna) is dizzy, it's because James palm-punched her in panel 4. She's landed on the floor, and is dizzily looking up at Julia.

And thanks for the elf (faerie) compliment; it's long been in the script that Julia was react to her reflection, but it was supposed to be a simpler sort of kitten meeting its reflection kind of thing. I think I got a contact high from all the Dave Matthews Band I listened to while drawing this page, and it became... something else entirely.

Oh right, fairie. Not sure why I said elf...

Yep, I know it's at 800px now. That's why I was saying you shouldn't make the whisper any smaller at all unless you decide to make a larger page online. :)

And yeah, it wasn't clear that he punched her in panel 4. Perhaps a sound effect between the 2 panels as well?

I don't use sound effects in my comics, just like Warren Ellis.

I added Arayna's arm behind her cigarette and James' hand; it seems to help.

I also added JULIA'S FAERIE EAR, which I FORGOT TO DRAW. Oi.

I'm realizing we should see Arayna's hand or foot or something in panel 4. I'll stat a fix in later.

:) I like your writing and art, reminds me of reading Heavy Metal back in the good old days.

Thanks! I've had a lot of people compare my work to older stuff I've only seen a little of and mostly haven't read -- I must just have classic sensibilities.:)
