SwordCat Writes | A Digital Letter Column

Hello, loyal readers! Did you miss me?

*hopefully not the sound of crickets*

I apologize for more or less "disappearing" for the three-and-a-half months. As you may or may not know (depending on how many of my author comment sections you've read previously), I have a disabled wife. When I met her, I was a young Superman -- I thought I could comfortably run our every errand together on foot, aided by our local semi-reliable public transit system forever... but 7-ish years in, I've found that I cannot.

Somewhere between new joint pains cropping up and running errands in downpour after downpour after missed bus after missed bus, I came to realize that we DESPERATELY need a car.

Knowing SwordCat Knights wasn't going to make enough money for one anytime soon, I took it upon myself to sell a large number of the more valueable-ish things we owned to save up to buy a car (the intention being to build upon a pet deposit we'd been refunded by our landlords after our cats got reclassified as companion animals).

Anyway. That's what I've been up to since the end of October. Between Amazon, eBay, and Craigslist, it's nearly been a full-time job.

...oh, and I also found time to DRAW A PAGE, YO -- because one must get back to work SOMETIME, right?

I think this page speaks for itself more than it doesn't, but I'd like to just say that I get a big kick out of drawing upside-down Julia. Like, it's my new greatest joy in life.

I'm finding this rewritten-at-the-last-minute scene difficult to letter, because I'm rewriting the hell out of the rewrite as I go. Kathryn almost ended this page with a dry joke about being safe from having her lady bits snaked by James Barrington... I didn't hit on the right exit lines until after a whole day(!) of futzing with the dialogue (I was extremely sleepy, to be fair).

On the previous page, we got to see how Kathryn was dressing as SwordCat Princess in the angsty, slutty '90s; now, we get to see how James was dressing in the same period.

Spoiler alert: the Liefeld pouches are full of condoms and musk.

...aaand I'm realizing his cigarette vanishes between panels 6 and 7. Hmm. Maybe he ate it.

(Did I just "No-Prize" myself? I did? COOL!)

Soup sock,
