...wait -- winter is HERE. (The falling snow will be added at the coloring stage.)

Now, in case you've forgotten (and you almost certainly have), Cheri grew some icicles while secretly watching Jack's illegal interrogation of Kathryn/Artemis/SwordCat back in issue #5. If that seemed random and weird... well, it was. It was also leading up to this reveal:

Cheri is the superhero Blue Eyes of Death™ -- and she's dead!* (*She's not dead, but we won't learn exactly how she survives this for quite a long time. Like, 7 years in, I think.)

Cheri's superhero status has been hinted at since issue #1, actually -- she's in that superhero portrait sketch in Kathryn's office, and she clearly recognized "Artemis" at the Skybank -- all of that because, in the 1940s, she was on a superhero team with Kathryn/Artemis called the KnightGuard, run by MacKnight's father, MacKnight Sr. (this is how MacKnight knows to seek her aid in bringing on this temporary Snowpocalypse).

Cheri's Blue Eyes of Death costume is partially inspired by Kathryn's Artemis armor; as they were on the same team, Cheri used Artemis as inspiration to become a superhero, something she's not entirely comfortable being.

The choice of Tahiti is a reference to two things I enjoy: The Wallflowers' cover of "Whole Wide World", and Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ("It's a magical place...")

Cheri, as none of you likely recall, is modeled (with permission) on my good similarly-named (and nicknamed) friend from dance class; she and I bonded early on over a shared love of U2, which inspired her silly earrings here. Was it worth the extra 35 minutes? I think so. I was going to stat in some crosses to show that she's a Christian, but, as U2 is a Christian band, the astute should work that out.

Sorry. I'm working hard. I'm taking tomorrow off, then back to the malt signs (heh) on Thursday. I'll do my best to get the next page done by Monday.

Oh, man. :'D That last panel.... I know you said you're gonna color but just wanted to say I love the b&w with the dab of color like this page too.

Awesome work, sir!

I actually prefer most of the pages in black and white with dabs of color, but I know the book'll never do well that way. What's good for Sin City ain't good for me, likely due to my complicated layouts and tendency to design weirdly stark geometric locations which don't read well in b&w to most.

Ha, the last panel... given that the likeness is a dear friend, it felt strange to have to shoot her in the heart, but art demands what art demands. Eventually I'll have to give her the print edition and reassure her that it's not ACTUALLY a death scene...

Wow... So, how do you manage to pump out pages for this webcomic when you're not working at Marvel comics or DC?

I say this because your art work is stellar, and there's no way you're not a pro.

Either way, fantastic work, my friend.

Wow, that's a hell of a compliment, thanks.

I had a chance to be a pro a while back, but it would have meant shelving this comic and drawing Star Wars comics. Had it been Star TREK comics, well... everything might have been different.

(I am planning to submit this comic to Image when the first issue is fully colored.)
