New title.

...yeah, so, originally the book was to be called Artemis. Then I found out DC Comics had already taken that.

I changed it to Eternal. Then I found out Marvel had Eternals. With an "s"; the margin for not getting sued seemed very thin.

So I changed it AGAIN to Eternal Knights. I liked Eternal and Eternal Knights' shared ability to allow me to use Kathryn's omega sword as an E.

...except, I've gotten comments from everyone from my mom to my art teacher to random new readers, all telling me that the sword doesn't read as clearly as an E as one might hope. And I ignored them all, because, well... it looked cool.

I had no idea when I chose Eternal Knights that it was, like, a famous phrase/concept. And since I chose it, I've seen an uncomfortable number of similarly named projects; mostly prose, but you never know when the next Hunger Games is going to come along -- and if it comes from a novel called Eternal Knight, I am SCREWED.

I don't wanna be screwed. So: SwordCat Knights. Deal with it.

This cover is my attempt at recapturing some of that Michael Turner influence that really got me into comics to begin with. I had my Top Cow tendencies beaten out of me by my naturalist-leaning art teachers, and I think my art is poorer for it. Michael Turner's work is PRETTY. (I've been ripping off Cassaday for so long that this looks more than vaguely like Cassaday trying to do Turner...).

I want this book to be just a little more FUN than it's been. It's still the same story, but I'm comic booking things up to, if not 11, then at least 9 or 10. The idea of Julia making Kathryn's suicide kit wasn't in the script, but now it will be. I think it's powerful -- the means of one's self-destruction become giant in the depressed mind's obsession, and here, that's made literal.

Plus: battle panties are yay!

I spent WAY too long on Black Earl's REAL POISON ("It's REALLY poison!) -- and yet, just long enough. I was originally going to put a skull & crossbones on the label, but I stumbled across this horrified-looking siren calling ships to their rocky doom, and it just felt RIGHT. Black Earl is an actual character who will show up later, and, as this label is effectively our introduction to him, I felt the need to NAIL it.

Easter Eggs: There's a reference to The Verve Pipe song in this cover, as well as a reference to a U2 song. Hint: all the text is readable.

I'm going to leave it to my readers to try and work out all the sword and gun and death symbolism. This is a VERY Freudian cover, folks.

It's all Greek to me. Wink.

I like the new title. And this cover is AMAZING (not that I have seen anything less than amazing from you).

Carry on, good sir!

Thanks, I'm glad you like the new title. It's the excuse I've been needing to think a little more comic book-y and off the wall --

-- so as I worked on it, the cover kept getting weirder and weirder in, I think, the best way.

All that, and no one's going to confuse it with anything else.

But now you'd need an adorable Sword-cat mascot/logo! XD

This is a very anime name (to my ear, anyway), so yeah. I mean, I've thought about it. Right now, all she has are pointy gloves.

The cover looks fantastic! I can't wait to see more! I also has a kind of Drew Struzan style of composition

Thanks! I didn't consciously aim for a Struzan composition here, but it's in my subconscious. I've long wanted to make a Serenity poster in his style.

Cool new title. Kinda took me by surprise like, wait, what did I just see? XD

Looking forward to what's coming up next. :)

Thanks! And I'm as surprised as anyone, but a cool original title is something I've really been trying to reach since I first created the seeds of this story.

Sorry guy, this title absolutely sucks.
You have put in a lot of work for this book to be taken seriously and then undone it with a stroke.
Or maybe I'm just old and internet hipsters will all love it.

I've gotta be at least as old as you, I think...

The title will be heavily justified in-universe (which will require a small handful of retcon dialogue edits). Since Kathryn accidentally killed Jack's dad Richard when she was trying to save him, she, as Artemis, was being hunted by the police, so she adopted a new superhero persona for a while: SwordCat. It actually fits perfectly into her backstory and timeline.

Basically, my thinking was A. Kathryn is literally an Irish princess and B. She should have a cool, original superhero name. On thought B., I'd never been able to think one up until now, but I crossed her nickname (Kat) with her superhero catchphrase ("I have swords!") and SwordCat was born (like Kitty Pryde and ShadowCat, it's cat with a C -- Clark Kenting it a bit).

...so, it's not just random nonsense gibberish. It's the kind of title I was looking for back in the day, but was unable to generate at the time. It's actually much more in the spirit of what I was aiming for when I started this: Saturday morning cartoon meets Top Cow comic book.

Gargoyles is my favorite action cartoon ever, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles wins the titling title (or maybe Buffy the Vampire Slayer wins it).

I know not everyone will like this change, but it's very exciting for me. For my tastes, I've accomplished something which has eluded me for 20 years and 7 months -- I've come up with an original name for my character and comic. And, yeah, I guess I could have thrown anything together to do it (GatorKnives! CapeBogger! BroccoliTwat!), but this isn't just anything. This will be a meaningful addition to the mythos I'm building, and is absolutely a missing piece that has been "found".

You're totally allowed to hate it though. Because, individuality.

Dude you could call it "Go Fuck Yourself" and I would read it, put it on a pull at the shop and talk about the title in public.
You do good work and the legal Cocksuckers working for the big companies are the bane of folks just trying to get their stuff out there. I know the guy who was publishing SUPERHERO HAPPY HOUR until he got a CEASE and DESIST from MARVEL because the term SUPERHERO is a shared copywrite between DC and MARVEL.
You call it whatever you want. All you have to do is make it good and you are already doing that.
Keep on doing what you're doing, Tibbittz.

Is it wrong that I really like that title? :D

Thanks for your kind words.
