More Dick! (Sorry, this will never get old to me...)

I wish I had a good reason for the lateness of this page, but I don't. I'm having a sort of impractical emotional crisis I can't delve into publicly, but it's had me enormously distracted.

Actually, I do have part of a good reason, which is that I've taken up a new exercise routine, doing a walk and bike ride every day. Webcomics have been slowly killing me with fatness the last three years, and I'm getting just old enough that I can't stay up every Friday night on a soda bender to finish pages. I've lost 7 pounds in the last two weeks, so it's working. It takes some time away from the comic, but it helps me live longer, thus adding time for the comic on the back end.

Caley - life comes first, comics second. I have said that before, and will re-iterate to anyone who is going through problems.

Congrats on the exercise routine and weight-loss. I am doing the very same thing (with professional help) and I have lost over 25lbs the past 4 months. Just remember that the majority of weight-loss comes from eating sensibly, but the exercise will certainly help you feel better!

Is that a new power for dear sister"? If so, that's DAMN cool! Maybe her speech is the wake-up call ass-kicking Kathryn needs in order for her to get out of her funk...

1. That's a good mantra to remember, thanks.:)

2. Good for you! And yeah, I know diet's important -- I've really been cutting down on fat, sugar, and portion size.

3. Short answer: yes. Long answer: Arayna's wielding some of Oberon's power now that she's wearing two rings at once; if you look back at the rest of this fight, she's done something different with each blast as she's been learning on the fly to control this sliver of Oberon's energies.

3A. Kathryn definitely needs the challenge and bluntness Arayna's given here to help on her journey away from despondence and a sense of victimhood.

Soup sock,

Fantastic new page.

The one thing I forgot to do for the last one in its comment section was say how good it was, especially the parts where characters were being "smashed" out of the page.

Thanks! Part of the extra time this took was realizing I'd drawn a couple panels vertically and dull -- I got How To Draw Comics the Marvel Way out to remedy things. So, anyone who enjoys panel 2: thank John Buscema.

And I'm glad you liked the "smashed out" characters on the last page. Honestly, I never know if that stuff is working 'til someone else tells me. I do like to experiment...

(I'll reply to your emails ASAP, BTW.)

I was wondering how you did those indented replies. How is it that I'm only working this out now? (Actual reply down below).

Damm she defleshed Kat's arm. That's one way to get her ring & guard but won't they just come back when she regrows her arm?

Normally, Kathryn could will the ring back with her other hand (or any part of herself, really), but Arayna has it trapped in that little lightning orb.

(I'll probably put a line of dialogue on the next page to make it clear why the ring can't be willed back.)

Eh, no rush. I figured you had stuff going on. I keep the occasional eye on the comic fury forum posts to make sure everything's OK (my incredibly scientific method is that if you're still posting things must at least be all right or you quite possibly wouldn't be).

No really, it does work. It created the effect of a third dimension as much as you can when working with a 2D flat drawing. Both Kathryn jumping through Dick and later being punched out of frame.

That was the other thing that really worked, mixing things up a bit and not always being bound by being restricted by the panel frames.

I think one of these days, we (the readers) all have to get together and work out a way to get the whole archive coloured. It's still very good as it is but you're right, this really was meant to be in colour, the already coloured pages show that.

Arayna was originally going to blast the arm off with Kathryn on the ground, but A. that sounded grosser to draw than write and B. I didn't have the room on the page to do it justice. Then this occurred to me, and I liked it MUCH better.
