A new story page? WTF?!?!?!?

For clarity's sake, here's a reminder that Kathryn can "will" her ring to her, and that she can make her armor appear again while wearing it.

(With as much as two months between new pages, I can't expect everyone to remember all this.)

When this gets colored, Kathryn's eyes will be glowing in panel 4 to match the ring's glow in panel 5 as it flies toward her, which will (hopefully) tie the actions together better.

...I got sick of doing flats and lineart corrections and dialogue corrections* for issue #1, so I decided to finish this. I started it on 08/07, but left it sitting at the blue pencil breakdown stage for a while while doing the aforementioned drudge work.

(*Smiley now has a bunch of new and altered dialogue on page 12 of issue #1. Exciting, right? You should totes check it out. TOTES.)

I also basically rewrote page 23 of issue #1:

I've now spent probably literally a full 24-hour day on the various attempts to nail this very important page. Including about 10 hours between today and yesterday. Every adjustment demanded several more adjustments. It was brutal. But I finally broke Kathryn's dialogue down from flowery to raw. It was prose, it was written, it was a fake iteration of a real emotion -- and then it broke apart, and her list of people she misses was inside all along.

I've done a little housecleaning, and now the official forum for SwordCat Knights is ready for your questions about the book, characters, etc. James Barrington will answer your random nonsense questions! I'll be doing art critiques!

The best part is that you can share fan art, making the forums the first place to go to see new SCK fanart, before it gets posted to the sketchbook/fanart archive banner-linked below. Visit! Register! Post art! Or don't! This isn't North Korea!

Thanks. This ended up being one of my favorites so far, which I didn't expect at the outset. If I gave myself 2 months to fine tune every page... well, I'd lose more readers than it would be worth. :)

In the immortal words of the King of Comics, "done is better than perfect."

Amen. I'm at the point where I need to figure out a reasonable way to pare down my style a bit. Things are getting too complex and flowery in regard to rendering. And, while I'm pretty happy with this composition, I'm overthinking the composition stage, which is also slowing me down.

I don't want to streamline to Kirby levels, but I do need to streamline.

Thanks, your comment on your own update in the newest page thread helped explain things, too! :) Also appreciate your comment on my unworthy drek of a comic.

I'm a bit confused too, but yeah, beautiful page.

I added a note to my Author Note with links to previous examples of how Kathryn's ring works.

Lots of awesome on this page. Silhouettes are a nice touch. Can't tell if that deflection was off or perfect. ;)

Thanks. And, deflection of the bullet? Pure instinct and muscle memory --

-- but she's only thinking of herself on this page, ricocheting all willy-nilly and threatening to steal Erica's pants. Even when she breaks her "chains" and stands tall as a proud hero, she's still getting it wrong (a fact that's about to hit her on the next page).

Thanks! I became a crosshatch man for no reason here.

I'm pretty proud of Jack's face -- it's the most quietly human he's gotten thus far.

Nice deflect! Damn she's fast.

Almost... TOO fast?

...there's more to Kathryn than she even knows. The insane reflexes, the glowing eyes... these aren't things all the other immortals have.
